Effective communication is one of the most important skills leaders can have.  In this module of the program, I share the tips and tools I use for improving communication up and down both to my team and line management. As a military leader, it was crucial that I could convey large amounts of complex information in the simplest way so that my soldiers could readily absorb all the detail and importantly know what to do and when.

The Australian Defence Force uses a highly effective planning and communication system called SMEAC. I continue to use this tool even now as a leader and entrepreneur to convey information no matter the scenario we are dealing with. Complex or simple or anything in between.

  • My experience of learning to provide clarity in communication and where communication failed in the 2006 Lebanon War.
