One of our most important and challenging functions as a leader is decision making and the accountability and responsibility that goes with making those decisions. There are risks associated with nearly every decision we make, be it in our work or life in general and these risks can be confusing, stressful, frightening and even paralysing. In the military the decisions we make not only affect outcomes, they can impact life and death and often we don’t have much time to make them.

In this module I share my “Actions On” decision making tool which is applicable for both quick and longer-term decisions. I hope you find it as powerful as it has been for me in making some of the toughest decisions I have ever faced on the battlefield and in business.

  • My experience of the toughest decision I had to make whilst in command of a United Nations peacekeeping armored vehicle convoy, under fire from Israeli Fighter jets during the 2006 Lebanon War.
